The 10 Most Beautiful Beaches on Naxos – Rated by Travel Type
Naxos beaches are among the best in the Cyclades. The island offers miles of sandy beaches, hidden coves, and world-class windsurfing spots – with something for every type of traveler. From Villa La Natura, you can reach most beaches in 5–15 minutes by car. Here is our rating of the 10 most beautiful beaches on Naxos, sorted by travel type.
1. Plaka Beach – The All-Rounder (Our Favorite)
Distance from Villa La Natura: 7 minutes by car
Beach type: Fine sand, gently sloping, organized and natural sections
Ideal for: Families, couples, sunbathers
Plaka Beach is our home beach – and by far the most beautiful beach on Naxos. 4 kilometers of fine sand, gently sloping water, and a mix of organized sections with loungers and natural areas. You’ll always find a quiet spot, even in high season. The beach section directly below the villa is reachable in 7 minutes.
2. Agios Prokopios – The Caribbean Beach
Distance: 10 minutes by car
Beach type: Turquoise water, powdery fine sand
Ideal for: Couples, snorkelers, beach lovers
Agios Prokopios is often called the most beautiful beach in the Cyclades – and for good reason. The water is incredibly clear, the sand almost white and fine as powder. The beach is well-organized with loungers, umbrellas, and several seaside tavernas.
3. Mikri Vigla – The Windsurf Hotspot
Distance: 12 minutes by car
Beach type: Two coves (north for wind, south for calm)
Ideal for: Windsurfers, kitesurfers, active travelers
Mikri Vigla is internationally known as one of the best windsurfing and kitesurfing spots in Greece. The Meltemi wind creates perfect conditions from June to September. The northern cove is windy and wavy, the southern cove is usually sheltered and calm.
4. Agia Anna – The Lively Spot
Distance: 9 minutes by car
Beach type: Sandy beach with promenade
Ideal for: Couples, families, beach gastronomy lovers
Right next to Agios Prokopios lies Agia Anna – a beautiful sandy beach with a small promenade full of tavernas, cafés, and bars. The water is clear and shallow, the beach slightly quieter than Agios Prokopios.
5. Agios Georgios – The Town Beach
Distance: 15 minutes by car
Beach type: Sandy beach right in Chora (Naxos Town)
Ideal for: Windsurfers, solo travelers, evening strollers
Agios Georgios is located right in Chora and is the perfect beach for a combined day: beach in the morning, stroll through the alleys of Chora in the afternoon.
6. Alyko – The Hidden Gem
Distance: 15 minutes by car
Beach type: Several small coves with cedar forest
Ideal for: Peace seekers, nature lovers, nudists
Alyko is a beach region with several small coves surrounded by a protected cedar forest. No hotels, barely any infrastructure – just peace, clear water, and a abandoned 90s luxury resort for photo ops.
7. Amitis Beach – The Secluded Cove
Distance from Villa La Natura: 5 minutes by car
Beach type: Small pebble cove with local character
Ideal for: Peace seekers, locals, quick dips
A small cove between Agia Paraskevi and Agios Prokopios – barely known, rarely crowded, and only 5 minutes from the villa. A small local taverna right on the water. Perfect for a spontaneous afternoon swim.
8. Orkos Beach – The Quiet One
Distance: 12 minutes by car
Beach type: Long sandy beach, less touristy
Ideal for: Families, peace seekers, nature lovers
Orkos lies between Mikri Vigla and Plaka and is significantly quieter than its famous neighbors. Long and wide, fine sand, clear water. One low-key beach bar. Ideal for those who want peace and quiet.
9. Apollonas – The Northern Beach
Distance: 40 minutes by car
Beach type: Small sandy beach with mountain backdrop
Ideal for: Explorers, day-trippers, photographers
Apollonas on the north coast is a sleepy fishing village with a small but lovely beach. The drive through the mountain villages is spectacular in itself.
10. Mikri Vigla (South Cove) – Our Secret Tip
Distance: 12 minutes by car
Beach type: Sheltered sandy cove
Ideal for: Anyone seeking peace
While the north side of Mikri Vigla belongs to the surfers, the south cove is usually completely empty. Turquoise water, sand, and absolute peace – no lounger rental, no bar, just beach.
Which Beach Suits You?
- Families: Plaka Beach or Agios Georgios – shallow water, organized
- Couples: Agios Prokopios or Alyko – romantic or secluded
- Windsurfers: Mikri Vigla (north cove) – international top spot
- Peace seekers: Orkos or Amitis Beach – no hustle and bustle
- Explorers: Apollonas – combines beach with mountain village tour
Our favorite remains Plaka Beach – right on our doorstep, never overcrowded, and perfect sand. From Villa La Natura, you can reach all beaches in 5–15 minutes. Though with the infinity pool at the villa, the choice is easy: beach in the morning, your own pool in the afternoon.
